  • I’m *ed off and worried as I pace around the room. Yoona has fallen asleep because of the sedatives and the others keep telling me to sit down while we wait for some news but I can’t just sit still. Every now and then I hear Yoona groaning in her sleep – probably out of nightmares. She barely survived the car accident and now she's been through a whole new other ordeal.
  • I feel like someone cursed us or something. One moment things were going great, the next everything was happening all of a sudden – first Baekhyun being beaten to a bloody pulp, then Yoona breaking up with hyung, then the accident and her being in a coma. That wasn’t enough, she woke up with muddled memories and her legs paralyzed. Apparently, not even that was enough. Someone wants her dead – someone came to kill her and if it weren’t for Minji and Hoseok she would be dead.
  • Now, Hoseok is fighting for his life and Minji seems to be lost in her own world. Jimin keeps looking at her – worry written all over his face. I know something is up but it’s not something they want to talk to us about right now. Right now our focus is in Hoseok.
  • Finally, Taehyung walks into the room with a smile on his face. ‘Hoseok-hyung is out of surgery. The bullet tore through the flesh but didn’t do any permanent damage since no organs were hit. It’s going to take a couple of weeks before he can dance but he’s going to be okay.’ He informs us.
  • ‘Ah thank God.’ Yoongi says as he lets out a deep breath. I see him turn to Yun who quickly hugs him while Jimin and Minji also hug. I turn to Tae who gives me a smile as we both let out breaths of relief. Our hyung is going to be okay.
  • ‘I’m so glad to hear that.’ Yoona’s mother says. She was really distraught when she learned what happened. She was scared about what happened to her daughter and was really upset when she learned Hoseok was shot in the process of protecting Yoona.
  • Yoona seems to hear the commotion as she begins to wake up. Her mother approaches her and takes her hand in hers. ‘Eomma…’ Yoona murmurs. ‘Where’s Hoseok?’ She asks. I smile at the thought that her first thought is of him. She may not remember him completely but her feelings for him haven’t changed.
  • ‘He’s out of surgery honey. He’s going to be okay.’ Her mother says and I see the relief flooding on her face. She closes her eyes and places a hand on her heart as she lets out a shaky breath before she looks back at her mother.
  • ‘Can you take me to him?’ She asks. I look at Minji who doesn’t look too sure but then she nods.
  • ‘Sure. I’ll talk to cops outside.’ She says as she walks outside of the room to go talk to them. Jimin follows close behind her, as if he doesn't want to lose sight of her while I approach Yoona.
  • ‘Here, I’ll help you.’ I say as I motion for Taehyung to bring the wheelchair closer. Yoona’s mother smiles at me as she removes her blanket. It’s almost like she is thanking me with her eyes while I place my arm under her.
  • I pick her up bridal style and gently place her on the wheelchair. I try to hide the fact that my hands are shaking as I place her legs in place. It’s so heartbreaking as I feel how limb her legs are since she has no control over them. I can’t even look her in the eyes as I do so.
  • ‘It’s okay Kookie.’ She says and I look at her as she uses the nickname she used to call me with sometimes. She always used to call me Kookie when she would try to comfort me. She blinks her eyes as if she realizes what she just said. ‘What did I just call you?’ She asks.
  • ‘Kookie… it’s one of the nicknames you sometimes use with me.’ I say with a slight smile. Even if she doesn’t remember a lot of things, she keeps remembering bits and pieces which makes me hopeful that she’ll eventually remember everything.
  • Minji comes back and nods, saying she got permission for us to go. I start to push the wheelchair as we make our way to where Hoseok has been moved. As we arrive we see Namjoon and Jin there as they greet us.
  • ‘He’s awake.’ Namjoon says and I smile as we enter the room. His head turns to look and smiles as he sees Yoona.
  • ‘Hey you didn’t have to come.’ He says but Yoona just smiles. I can see that all she is seeing right now is him. Her eyes are fixed on him and I see the love there. I push the chair next to the bed and Hoseok reaches for her hand.
  • ‘Of course I had to.’ She says. ‘Hobi… I used to call you that right?’ She asks and he smiles and nods.
  • ‘Yeah you did.’ He says. ‘How are you feeling? Are you okay?’ He asks and she scoffs.
  • ‘I’m the one who should be asking that. You’re the one who got shot to protect me.’ She says.
  • ‘It’s nothing serious Yoona… I’ll be fine in a couple of weeks.’ He says as he squeezes her hand. He then looks at Minji and sighs. ‘How about you? Are you okay?’ He asks and she nods.
  • ‘You know me Oppa. I’m stronger than I look.’ She says as she winks at him. She’s trying not to worry him because I know she’s not okay. She got nine stitches right above her eyebrow and every now and then I see her wince as she tries to swallow, her neck and throat clearly hurting her. She has bruises already forming around her neck area where the * must have tried to choke her.
  • ‘Yeah I know. If you didn’t show up in time, me and Yoona would both be dead.’ He says sounding serious and she sighs.
  • ‘And if it weren’t for you shooting him, I’d be dead too. I came as fast as I could. I’m sorry I didn’t come sooner.’ She says but he shakes his head. I feel a cold chill as she says those words. I don’t know exactly what happened but I do know she was in real danger of getting killed. ‘Listen, we have to be careful who we speak to about this. The one who tried to kill you is still out there and so is the person who hired him. You have to be extra careful.’ She says.
  • ‘So do you.’ Hoseok replies sternly. They share an intense but knowing look for a few seconds before he continues. ‘You saw his face when he was trying to choke you. For him, you’re a bigger threat than us.’ He says and I hear Yoona sighing.
  • ‘I’m so sorry. This is all my fault.’ She says but Minji shakes her head.
  • ‘It’s not. Anyone can get into some kind of trouble without realizing but don’t worry too much Unnie. I will take care of it.’ She says.
  • ‘Take care of it? What are you talking about?’ I ask, my voice raising as I grab her arm and turn her around to force her to look at me. She looks at me and sighs.
  • ‘Kooks… I don’t know for certain but I think the person behind this probably has some cops in his pocket which means we have to be very careful with who we can trust.’ She explains.
  • ‘Exactly so don’t get involved in this.’ I reply, a little angrily. It’s not that I am angry at her. I’m angry at the fact that I know she is right which makes me worry about her. Just looking at her face and neck reminds me she was close to getting killed. ‘You’re not a cop Minji. I know you know how to defend yourself but you were almost killed a few hours ago.’ I say. I look at Jimin who has his arms across his chest but doesn’t say anything. I’m guessing they’ve already had this conversation.
  • ‘Kooks…’ She says, her voice sounding gentle. ‘You’re right, I am not a cop but Appa is the D.A. and I have some friends in the force. I’m already involved whether I want to or not. The person who warned me, he said they know about me trying to dig in already.’ She says and I sigh.
  • ‘Minji I don’t want to see you get hurt.’ I say and she smiles. ‘But I also know you’re stubborn so I can’t change your mind, can I?’ I ask.
  • ‘Not really and it’s better this way Kooks. I can know what is going on and that way I can be safer and so will they.’ She says looking at Hoseok and Yoona who are silent.
  • ‘Fine but you’ve got to let me help you, got it?’ I ask. She goes to protest so I hold my hand up. ‘No buts, no arguments. We do this together.’ I say and she sighs.
  • ‘Fine.’ She replies. ‘I already called Appa to let him know what happened. We’ll talk with him and see where it goes. Kooks you can help but you can’t lose focus. Promise?’ She asks and I nod.
  • ‘Promise.’ I say. ‘You’ve got to promise me something too.’ I say and she cocks her head to one side and looks at me.
  • ‘What is it?’ She asks.
  • ‘ You have to promise me you’ll be careful and not do anything crazy and you always inform me or Jimin or someone where you’re going and what you’re doing.’ I say.
  • ‘I promise I’ll be careful Kooks. Trust me – I grew up watching Appa work with cops, trying to solve cases. I know what I am doing.’ She says and I nod. ‘Now, there is someone I need to talk to.’ She says as she looks at Yoona.
  • ‘You’re talking about Baekhyun right?’ Yoona asks and Minji nods. Yoona sighs and nods just as the door opens and her mother walks in with some soup.
  • ‘What about Baekhyun?’ Her mother asks with a small smile. I don’t think the poor woman knows how serious the situation is or... perhaps she is hiding it to not worry her daughter.
  • ‘Do you know where my brother is?’ Yoona asks as her mother sets the soup down. She grabs the tray and gives it to Hoseok and puts the soup on it.
  • ‘You’ve got to eat up son so you can regain your strength quickly.’ She says before she turns back to Yoona. ‘Your brother is the reason for this happening isn’t it?’ She asks.
  • ‘I don’t know Eomma but I need to find out.’ Yoona answers back, trying to stay away from the actual reason she’s asking about his whereabouts.
  • ‘Ever since your father walked out on us, that boy has been getting into trouble. I thought things were changing but I guess I was wrong.’ She says with a sad sigh. In these past two months, it feels like she has aged by years. She has circles under her eyes and her wrinkles are showing more than ever. She looks like she has suddenly aged by ten years. ‘I don’t know where he went. He stormed off muttering to himself that it’s his fault. He didn’t even see or hear me.’ She answers.
  • ‘It’s okay. We’ll find him Mrs. Sung.’ Minji says. ‘Kooks, Chim … want to come with me to look for him?’ She asks and I nod.
  • ‘You might want to check with his friend Chi-Won. Although I haven’t heard him mention him since he got beaten up. I wonder if the two had a fight.’ She mutters to herself.
  • ‘Chi-Won?’ Yoona asks. She closes her eyes as if some memory seems to pop into her brain but doesn’t say anything.
  • ‘We’ll go for now.’ Minji says as the three of us walk out together. As we get into the elevator, Minji pulls out her phone and smirks. ‘Yoona texted me. She said Chi-Won was there when Baekhyun was beaten up.’ She says.
  • ‘Are you sure you want to do this?’ Jimin asks and her smirk gets even bigger.
  • ‘This *er beat a boy up, tried to kill Unnie, tried to kill Oppa and tried to kill me. I can guarantee you that most likely, the cops will stop investigating soon because of their orders from above, so yeah, I want to do this.’ She says and I see that glint of determination in her eyes.

  • We manage to find Baekhyun at one of the bars, half drunk and almost passed out. He’s not exactly used to drinking and he probably just wants to shut himself away from the world. I would too if I knew that the trouble I got into has almost killed three people, including my sibling. Minji looks like she is about to explode as she pulls him into the car and practically orders Jungkook to drive to her apartment.
  • We reach her apartment and she grabs Baekhyun by the ear as she drags him to the bathroom. ‘I kind of feel bad for Baekhyun.’ Jungkook murmurs as we stand next to the door while Minji pushes him into the bath. I'm not sure about whether he feels bad for him because of what is going on or because Minji looks like she is about to give him a proper tongue lashing...
  • ‘This is definitely not going to be fun for him.’ I say as she opens the tap water and starts to shower him. He yelps as he suddenly becomes aware of what is going on. That's one way to get him sober...
  • ‘Yah!! Stop that! It’s cold.’ He says as he sits up. She stops the water and literally glares at him. If only looks could kill…
  • ‘Get up.’ She says. I see him gulp as he does stand up and she throws him a towel. She walks out of the room and Baekhyun looks at us.
  • ‘What’s going on? Why did you guys bring me here?’ He asks as he steps out of the bathtub completely drenched. Jungkook and I exchange a look and then I look back at him as he takes off his shirt.
  • ‘After what happened today, you have a lot of explaining to do and trust me, you don’t want to get Minji mad.’ I say just as she comes back with a hoodie and sweatpants which are actually mine.
  • ‘Get changed and come to the living room.’ She orders as she steps back out. Jungkook and I step out as well and Jungkook looks at me.
  • ‘Are those your clothes?’ He asks, with one eyebrow raised. I can’t decipher the look on his face – is he amused or *ed off? I clear my throat, trying not to make it into a big deal so I just nod. ‘Want to explain why my sister has your clothes here?’ He asks as we reach the living room. Minji goes to the kitchen, completely unaware of our conversation. I sit down and Jungkook is quick to sit down next to me, his eyes boring into me. ‘Hyung… I asked you a question.’ He says in a low voice.
  • ‘I have some clothes here like she and Yun and Yoona have some clothes at the dorm. What’s the big deal?’ I ask, still avoiding to look at him.
  • ‘Hyung… are you and my sister having sex already?’ He asks as I break into a fit of coughs. How can this boy ask such a question directly?
  • ‘No, we just … cuddled in bed although for the record, what we do is none of your business.’ I say and I see him smirking.
  • ‘I know I just wanted to see you get all red in the face. You’re funny when you’re all embarrassed and shy.’ He replies. I open my mouth to say something but no words come out so instead I grab a cushion and start hitting him with it. ‘Yah stop that!!’ He says as he tries to block me.
  • ‘What are you two doing?’ Minji asks as she walks into the room. The two of us look at her as we try to give her an innocent look. ‘Do you think now is the time to play around?’ She asks, almost sounding annoyed.
  • ‘Sorry babe but your brother can be annoying sometimes.’ I say. She sighs and then smiles.
  • ‘You can say that again.’ She says and Jungkook quickly snaps a look at her as he feigns being offended.
  • ‘Is that so gremlin?’ He asks but before we can continue Baekhyun walks into the room. Minji’s small smile disappears again almost as if she remembers why we’re here in the first place.
  • ‘Sit down.’ She orders. Her voice is cold and authoritative, nothing like I have ever heard from her before. Baekhyun gulps as he sits down on the sofa opposite to us, clearly intimidated by her. ‘What happened on the night you were beaten up?’ She asks, still standing up.
  • ‘What? I already told you… I don’t’ know. I got jumped.’ He says, looking anywhere but at her. Even if we didn’t know any better, anyone can tell he is lying. She kicks at the sofa he is on, making him jump.
  • ‘Do I look like a fool to you?’ She asks, her voice raised. Her eyes look so focused right now. ‘I’ve been patient with you Baekhyun but my patience is wearing thin. Do not lie to me and do not test me.’ She says and I see him looking surprised… and afraid.
  • ‘I can’t. Things will only get worse if I open my mouth.’ He says and she scoffs as she suddenly grabs him by the collar of his shirt, lifting him off the sofa and slamming him into the wall. Jungkook and I both stand up as I stare in awe at her strength even though I should not be surprised anymore.
  • ‘Minji calm down.’ Jungkook says as he approaches her but she doesn’t hear him or doesn’t pay attention to him as she focuses on Baekhyun.
  • ‘Yoona has been taking care of your mess. She got into an accident, lost parts of her memories, lost her ability to walk and now she was almost murdered. Hoseok was shot. Are you really going to keep your mouth shut?’ She screams at him. I can see the vein in her neck popping as she gets angry. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her this angry or lose her cool this much. It’s almost scary to see her like this. Baekhyun stares at her and nods as she lets him go.
  • ‘You’re right. I know this is my mess and it’s driving me crazy.’ He says as he runs his hand through his hair. ‘You’re right – we’ve been lying about it. Last year, I had gambling problems and I burrowed money from someone named Boss. I don’t know his real name. I just know they call him that and I think he might be the owner of the Casino.’ He begins to explain.
  • ‘You’ve got to be kidding me. Of all the people you could have burrowed money, you went to someone like that?’ Jungkook ask but Minji raises her hand almost as if to tell him to shut his mouth. The last thing Baekhyun needs right now is us judging his choices. It’s only natural to do so but we also have to be understanding. He probably already feels like *. Jungkook sighs and nods. ‘Sorry… please, continue.’ He says.
  • ‘Anyways, my sister came with me. He said that there was interest. He wanted her to pay with her body and she refused and slapped him.’ He says. I recall the story that Yoona had told us. We had just returned from a very short break and she had a busted lip. She had a busted lip because she had slapped him and he slapped her in return.
  • ‘Yeah I remember this but she paid the interest, right?’ I ask and he nods. I remember Hoseok, Yoongi and Jungkook had gone after her and saw her going into the Casino.
  • ‘You’re right. She did and I promised her I would stay out of trouble. For a while I managed. I even got a job but then Chi-Won came into the picture.’ He says as he laughs bitterly. It’s the kind of laughter that is filled with bitterness and regret. ‘God I was such a fool. I thought he was a newbie at the construction like me so we became friends, except he was sent by Boss. He befriended me until he started taking me to these places. I started playing again. I was careful, I swear but he said he put something in my drink and got me drunk.’ He explains and I hear Minji sighing.
  • ‘He was sent to trap you. Boss, whoever he is, he’s smart and patient. He wanted you to feel confident before entrapping you.’ Minji says and Baekhyun nods. Her voice no longer sounds mad – instead it sounds empathetic.
  • ‘Exactly. I ended up before Boss, getting the life beaten out of me. He called her, showed her a video of me on my knees with a gun pointed to my head.’ He pauses as he shudders. I sigh as I start to look at him with less anger and more pity. I see Minji’s gaze soften as well. It’s almost a reminder that he is an eighteen-year-old kid who tried to do better but trusted the wrong person.
  • ‘What happened next?’ Minji asks softly.
  • ‘She came running. He wanted us to pay twenty-five million won by the end of the month. He told her that it was her who had to come with the money and that if we told anyone about the beating and the deal, he’d kill our mother and Hoseok-hyung.’ He says.
  • ‘That’s why she broke up with him. She was trying to protect him by pushing him away from her.’ Jungkook says.
  • ‘And that’s why she was working so hard on winning the competition. She figured if she could win the money, she could pay before the deadline before he could rake up interests.’ I say.
  • ‘I understand why she didn’t tell us but I wish she did. We could have tried to help.’ Jungkook says.
  • ‘Easier said than done. She felt trapped and when you feel trapped, it’s hard to think. She must have gone to pay the money right after she won. That’s why she disappeared.’ Minji says and Baekhyun nods.
  • ‘I guess so. I haven’t heard anything from Boss or Chi-Won and I’ve avoided that place completely and the construction site as well. I was hoping they would let things go but clearly I was wrong. I know I am a coward but I am scared.’ Baekhyun says.
  • ‘I know you are and I don't blame you for being scared but we can put him away for blackmail, usury, violence and attempted murder or inciting murder but we need to get evidence.’ Minji says with a frown.
  • ‘How are we going to do that?’ Baekhyun asks and she sighs just as the doorbell rings. She sighs once more as she goes to open the door.
  • ‘Appa. I’m glad you’re here. Come on in.’ She says as she directs him to the living room. ‘Appa you remember Jimin and Jungkook. That’s Baekhyun – the victim’s brother. It’s as I already told you – he owed money to the wrong people and they were threatened.’ She explains.
  • ‘Can you take a calming breath and let me see you first?’ He asks as he looks at her and frowns. He traces the bruises on her neck which have turned quite dark. Seeing those bruises sends chills down my spine. Just imagining her on the ground with someone trying to choke makes me feel sick to my stomach. ‘I thought I told you to be careful.’ He says.
  • ‘Was I supposed to let him kill them?’ She asks and he frowns.
  • ‘No, I guess not. Okay let’s see what we got here.’ He says as he sits down on the couch ready to get to work. ‘Do you have the injection you mentioned?’ He asks.
  • ‘I do.’ I say as I reach for the jacket and pull it out. Jungkook looks at me confused as does Baekhyun. ‘She gave it to me earlier. Since she thinks we cannot trust the cops so she took it herself.’ I explain as I hand it to her father.
  • ‘From what you mentioned, I think he’s a professional killer – a hired hitman so to say so probably we won’t find any prints on it.’ He says as he examines it.
  • ‘So what do you plan to do with it?’ Jungkook asks and he smiles. For a moment, I see the same mischievous glint in his eyes that sometimes I see in Minji. She may not be his biological daughter but she definitely has a lot of his character in her.
  • ‘We’re going to test the liquid. See what kind of chemical was used and then identify how common it is and how it can be accessed. That might give us information about the killer. Minji you saw his face, right?’ He asks and she nods. ‘Do you think you can describe him to a sketch artist?’ He asks.
  • ‘Shouldn’t be a problem. I don’t think I’ll be forgetting his face anytime soon. By the way, Baekhyun mentioned that the person he borrowed money from is someone nicknamed Boss – he’s the owner of the Casino.’ Minji says. I see her father’s eyes go wide.
  • ‘Mr. Lee?’ He asks as he looks at Baekhyun. Minji’s father takes out his phone and types something and then shows it to Baekhyun who nods.
  • ‘Yeah that’s him. You know him?’ Baekhyun asks and her father nods.
  • ‘You could say that. Minji remember when I told you about the group I was in. I told you Mr. Oh was in it and there was another one involved in business?’ He asks.
  • ‘Yeah. You said you kind of drifted apart except for Mr. Oh and Mr. Lee who had known each other since childhood. Damn, he betrayed his own friend to come warn me.’ She says.
  • ‘What are you talking about? I’m confused.’ Jungkook says and she sighs.
  • ‘The person who came to warn me about the price on Yoona’s head was Mr. Oh who happens to be best friends with Mr. Lee – aka Boss.’ She explains.
  • ‘It’s not going to be easy to get evidence against Lee. He’s smart and rich which means he can pay anyone to cover his tracks.’ Her father explains. ‘For now, we need to focus on keeping Baekhyun and Yoona safe, especially Yoona.’ Her father adds.
  • ‘Yoona will be moving with us at the dorm. So will Minji and Yun – that way we can make sure they’re not alone.’ I say and her father nods.
  • ‘Good. I’m moving back to Seoul for now. Baekhyun – you’ll stay with me. For the record, you’re not staying for free. I’m going to set you up with a job.’ He says.
  • ‘Really?’ Baekhyun asks bewildered. I’ll admit that even I am a bit confused about it.
  • ‘The office here has been nagging me to come work here and the Seoul hospital has asked your mother to work there as well so we’ve already been thinking about setting up the move from Incheon. I’m going to need someone by my side – a researcher for the office and that way I can keep my eyes on you.’ He explains.
  • ‘But I don’t know anything about research and stuff like that. What if I mess things up?’ Baekhyun asks. For the first time, I see him as truly an eighteen-year-old trying to find his place in the world.
  • ‘None of us knew anything from the start. Don’t worry – I’ll be your mentor but I expect you to work hard.’ Her father says and he nods. ‘It’s late now and we all had a long day. Baekhyun you’ll sleep with Jungkook and Jimin will sleep with me.’ He says as he looks at me, causing me to gulp.
  • ‘Appa!’ Minji exclaims as she looks at him. ‘There are only two beds. Are you expecting me to sleep on the couch?’ She asks.
  • ‘Yes, of course. I won’t have you sleeping next to boys.’ He replies and she sighs and shakes her head in disbelief. I see Jungkook trying to hold in his chuckles while I feel my face heat up.
  • ‘Aish! I’m not a teenager anymore.’ She complains as she stands up. ‘Fine. You can take my room and you two can take Yun’s room. She’s staying at the dorm with Yoongi anyways.’ She mumbles. It’s kind of cute to see her like this - being a simple twenty-two year old girl, so I can’t help but smile. I hear her father clear his throat which quickly grabs my attention.
  • ‘We’ll go then… good night ba-Minji.’ I say as I gulp as I start to follow her father to her room. I can’t help but notice his straight posture, the power in his strides and the way he carries himself. He has that certain confidence and it’s not hard to see where Minji got hers from. We get into the room and he brings his bag and takes out his pajamas. What am I supposed to do? I can’t just go and open the closet and take my clothes out in front of him. Jungkook may have been joking but her father might murder me here.
  • ‘Here. You can use these.’ He says suddenly as he throws me a shirt and shorts. I nod as I quickly change as well.
  • ‘Don’t worry too much about Minji. I know today might have been scary but she knows how to take care of herself.’ He says.
  • ‘We can’t help but worry about her. She’s too important to me and Jungkook.’ I say and he nods in understanding.
  • ‘I know but there is something you should know about our family. We’re not exactly you’re typical normal family.’ Her father begins. I look at him confused. ‘Yes, I’m the DA but I’m also an NIS member and so is her mother.’ He says.
  • ‘NIS? I’m not sure I understand.’ I say as we turn to look at each other. He lets out a small chuckle and nods.
  • ‘The National Intelligence Services.’ He replies. My eyes go wide as the realization hits me – they’re practically government agents. ‘And before you ask – yes, Minji knows and has been trained – not how to be an agent like us but how to observe the environment around her and keep safe.’ He says. Well that makes sense how well she can think about this stuff and why she’s such a good fighter.
  • ‘Damn!’ I say and he chuckles even louder. ‘Isn’t this sensitive information?’ I ask and he nods. ‘Why are you telling me this?’ I ask.
  • ‘My daughter trusts you. I see it in the way she looks at you. You may not have been together for long but she cares a lot about you and I know you care a lot about her. All throughout that conversation, you couldn’t keep your eyes off of her. You’re worried about her safety and you’re angry that someone hurt her, right?’ He asks and I nod. ‘I’m usually a very good judge of character and I know she’s in good hands with you.’ He says and I smile.
  • ‘Thank you sir. I won’t disappoint you and I will take care of her as best as I can.’ I say as I bow my head.
  • ‘I know you will and don’t call me sir. We’re practically family.’ He says and I smile.
  • ‘Okay then… Appa?’ I ask and he nods. I feel my phone vibrating and I take it out of my pocket.
  • ‘That’s probably her, asking you if I am interrogating you. Go ahead and answer. I’m going to sleep.’ He says as he gets into bed and closes his eyes. I chuckle lightly as I get into bed as well and look at my phone.
  • Minji: Hey Jiminie… is Appa interrogating you right now? 😂😂
  • Jiminie: No babe… we were just talking 😊😘
  • Minji: About what? Me? 😜
  • Jiminie: Something like that haha 😜
  • Minji: Come on tell me! Or I won’t give you kisses all day long tomorrow. 😤😤
  • Jiminie: He talked about your family and jobs …
  • Minji: He did? Wow he must really like you and trust you...
  • Jiminie: I guess so. Don’t worry… the secret is safe with me ❤️️😊
  • Jiminie: I guess you’re not the only cool one in the family huh?
  • Minji: You’re not disappointed are you? That I didn’t tell you….
  • Jiminie: Of course not! It’s not your secret to tell… I understand that and it’s not something you can just blurt out.
  • Minji: How did I get so lucky?
  • Jiminie: I don’t know… I ask myself the same question everyday. My girlfriend is beautiful, smart, fierce, strong and a kickass.
  • Minji: Baby ❤️️❤️️ I love you.
  • Jiminie: I love you too ❤️️❤️️ Now go rest. You had a tiring day and you need to rest.
  • Minji: You too. ❤️️❤️️
  • I put my phone away and smile to myself. Damn I really did get lucky with Minji.
  • Hoseok
  • The others have left – well everyone except for Yoona and Taehyung. Yoona is refusing to leave my room and Taehyung wants to stay to keep watch over the night. The guys have all agreed to take it in turns with us. I can’t even express how grateful and lucky I feel. As for Yoona, I don’t know if it’s because she doesn’t want to leave me or because she feels safer with me.
  • ‘You can’t stay here like this. You’ll be uncomfortable.’ I say as I look at her. It breaks my heart to see her sitting in that damned wheelchair.
  • ‘I’ll be okay.’ She says, offering me a smile as she keeps holding my hand. She gently caresses it as she runs circles on my palm with her thumb.
  • ‘If you’re going to insist on sleeping here with me then how about you get in bed next to me. There’s space.’ I say and she looks at me. ‘I know it’s a little awkward but it would worry me less.’ I say. She licks her lower lip, seemingly wondering on what she should do. She looks at Taehyung who gives her an encouraging nod.
  • ‘Okay then. Taehyung… can you um… help me please?’ She asks. I see the shyness in her eyes, something I’m not used to seeing. I’m used to seeing her as confident but I guess losing your memories would make you unsure of yoursef. Having to depend on others would take away your confidence.
  • ‘Sure noona.’ He says as he stands up and walks close to her. I move on the bed to make space for her as Taehyung picks her up with ease from the wheelchair and puts her next to me. I watch as he rearranges her legs and once again, I feel my eyes burning as I feel the tears pooling there. Seeing her like that – it fills me up with sadness that I can’t even explain. Being a dancer like her, I know how scary it is. It’s one of our worst fears – not being able to dance anymore.
  • ‘I’m okay Hobi.’ She says in a soft voice, as if she could read my emotions on my face. I nod slightly as I look at Tae.
  • ‘How about you? Are you sure you’re going to be okay on the couch?’ I ask and he gives me his usual box smile.
  • ‘You know me. I can sleep anywhere.’ He says, making both of us smile. He settles on the couch and covers himself with a blanket. I look at Yoona who rests her head on my chest. I spoon my arm around her waist.
  • ‘Comfortable?’ I ask her and she nods. She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath.
  • ‘It feels so good to hear your heartbeat.’ She murmurs as she begins to doze off. I smile as I squeeze her arm and kiss the top of forehead.
  • ‘I love you so much Yoona.’ I whisper to her but I realize she has fallen asleep with a slight smile on her face. I smile as I close my eyes, ready to go to sleep.
